Code of Ethics Enforcement Process
Upholding Professional Standards in Real Estate
All REALTORS® agree to follow the National Association of REALTORS® Code of Ethics when they join a local association. This Code goes beyond legal requirements and sets a higher standard for professionalism, honesty, and respect in real estate.
What To Do If You Have A Concern
Many issues that arise in a real estate transaction are the result of miscommunication. The first recommended step is to contact the Managing Broker of the REALTOR® involved. In many cases, a direct and constructive conversation can resolve the issue.
If further assistance is needed, ECBOR members or the public may contact the Board to request Ombudsman services before filing a formal complaint. The Ombudsman serves as a neutral party to help both sides reach a mutual understanding.
Please note: Ethics complaints cannot be used to collect money, damages, or reimbursement.
Filing An Ethics Complaint
If a resolution cannot be reached, you may file a formal Ethics Complaint through the Indiana Association of REALTORS®. With your permission, this information will be passed to an Ombudsman who will reach out to all parties to seek a resolution. If the matter is not resolved, you may proceed with a formal complaint.
